      Summary:
INTRODUCTION: Reduced physical activity and the increase of sedentary habits, as one of factors in the development of cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes mellitus type 2 and other diseases, is also present in high-school population. AIM OF WORK is to evaluate the level of physical activity in adolescents, their lifestyle and habits, in order to evaluate the exposure to the risks of diseases. METHOD: The data about physical activity, lifestyle and habits of adolescents is obtained by a questionnaire in III and IV grade of Gymnasium and Secondary Medical School in Zaječar. Data comparison by sex and school is done by χ² test. RESULTS: Analysis of the questionnaire shows that pupils from Secondary Medical School have physical activities less then pupils from Gymnasium, but also spend less sedentary time (TV, computer), while the students of Gymnasium consume alcohol more than students of Secondary Medical School. In relation to sex, moderate physical activity is equal for both genders, but generally girls are less physically active than boys. Boys again have more sedentary habits and consume more alcohol. CONCLUSION: Generally speaking, a large number of the young almost never or rarely do any physical activity (about 25%), and a large number of young people has got increased sedentary habits (over 40%) with bad lifestyle – consumption of cigarettes (over 30%) and alcohol (over 30%).
