  Summary:
The effect of taurine on electrical activity of the heart described in this paper indicates that taurine causes changes in ECG parameters. This is expressed by ST interval duration and T wave amplitude. On the other hand, taurine reverses the arrhythmia induced by toxic doses of K-strophanthin and eliminates the ECG changes caused by strophanthin. All physiological effects of taurine on the heart, observed by many investigators in animal experiments, evidence the therapeutic effect of taurine in patients with ischemic heart disease and cardiomyopathy. Since taurine is present in large quantities in myocardial cells, it may possibly be the substance that is switched into the chain of reactions that are responsible for normalization of functional activity in emergency situations. The question of the mechanism of taurine action on the heart is therefore very important and requires further investigation.
Key words: taurine, action, heart disease, electrocardiogram, arrhythmias
