      Summary:
INTRODUCTION: Hypertension is a massive, non-infectious disease of modern mankind. It is the increase of upper blood pressure over 140mmHg and the increase of lower blood pressure over 90mmHg. The chosen doctor is the most rational form of general medicine practice at the primary level. THE AIM OF WORK: To establish the availability of the chosen doctor to patients who are treated for hypertension. METHOD: The research was carried out through individual work method and work in small group, whereby a questionnaire made by general practitioners from Kragujevac was used as means of work. The study was carried out from February to March 2008. Ninety patients of the Health Care Centre in Kragujevac – Erdoglija unit, were polled. The average age of the patients was 58, of whom 65 (72.2%) women and 25 men (27.8%). RESULTS: All patients who were asked for opinion as a part of the poll have their own chosen doctor, and 7.8% of them occasionally went to see some other doctor. All patients are treated for hypertension, and the illness lasts 11 years on average. 58.9% of the patients think that their problem is of average importance. During the poll 55.6% of the patients visited their doctor 2-3 times, and 77.8% of them had a scheduled medical check-up. 66.7% patients came on regular control and 16.7% of them came because their health got worse. 61.1% of the patients scheduled the check-up on the same day when they called, and 97.8% of the patients think that in case of emergency their doctor is available on the same day. 88.9% of the patients with scheduled check-ups didn't wait in front of the doctor’s office for the call. 83.3% of the patients think that doctor spends enough time on them, and 77.8% of the patients think that the average time spent in the ordination should be 15 minutes. 86.7% of the patients solved the problem of hypertension in the doctor’s office and 13.3% of the patients were sent on a consultative check-up. Blood pressure was stabilized in 68.9% of the patients. The average grade of patients' satisfaction with the chosen doctor is 9.2. CONCLUSION: The chosen doctor is available to all his/her patients who suffer from hypertension, he/she gives them more time and attention, which brings a new quality in primary health care.
